Chimbusco Pan Nation Completed The First Biofuel Bunker Delivery In Hong Kong

On August 11, 2023, Chimbusco Pan Nation Petro-chemical Co., Ltd. (CPN), the largest marine fuel oil supplier in Hong Kong, successfully supplied the first batch of ISCC-EU certified UCOME-based B24 marine biofuel to an oceangoing vessel “Cape Amal” operated by Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (“K” Line), a prominent Japanese shipping company.

This connection with “K” Line was facilitated through the invaluable support of the Tokyo Branch of Peninsula which aids us in establishing ties with shipping companies in Japan that have a strong interest in Marine Biofuel. B24 marine biofuel is a blend of 24% B100 biodiesel and Marine Fuel Oil, which significantly contributes to reducing carbon emissions and promoting environmental sustainability.

B100 biodiesel used by CPN was provided by ASB Biodiesel (HK) Limited, in which having Hong Kong’s waste cooking oil as raw material, exemplifies the CPN’s commitment to waste-to-energy practices. Compared to traditional marine diesel, B100 biodiesel can reduce carbon emissions impressively by around 84%, making it a pivotal solution in achieving greener maritime operations.

Since 2021, CPN has established a dedicated taskforce to conduct research on alternative fuels, including marine biofuel, which aimed at contributing to a more sustainable shipping industry. The company’s efforts align with the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) heightened focus on GHG emission reduction in the Marine Environment Protection Committee 80th session (MEPC 80), which aims to achieve “net-zero” emissions by 2050. They are approving the assignment of the CO2 Emission Conversion Factor (Cf) for biofuel from 1st October, 2023.

CPN is committed to lead the marine fuel industry to eco-friendly port energy supply and achieving the global decarbonization goals. Amid increasing attention on sustainable development in the international shipping industry, CPN’s innovative green energy solutions illustrate the company’s dedication to corporate social responsibility and its mission to fuel the industry’s sustainable growth.
