Japan will be sending an accident investigation team to Mauritius to look into the cause of oil spill by Japanese Bulk Carrier MV Wakashio off the coast of Indian Ocean after it ran aground hitting the coral reefs.
Japanese Bulk Carrier MV Wakashio owned by MOL caused huge amount of oil spill due to running aground on a coral reef offshore of Pointe d’Esny, south of Mauritius.
The Panama Maritime Authority (AMP), through a delegation of experts in maritime accidents relocated to Mauritius, collaborates with the investigation of the accident of the Panamanian flag ship Wakashio, which is still in the data collection phase.

Sunil Kumar Nandeshwar, the captain of the ship that caused the oil spill on the protected coastline of Mauritius has been arrested on the grounds of endangering safe navigation of a vessel, an offence under maritime laws in Mauritius.
