Sailing toward the International Day for Women in Maritime, 2022, marked on 18 May, an all-women merchant officers’ fleet set off for the high seas onboard MT Swarna Godavari on 14th May.
IMO is continuing its efforts to support the careers of women in the maritime sector through delivery of a two-week online course from 17 – 28 January 2022.
Eezmaira Sazzea was part of the first group of women that had been undergoing maritime training at the Akademi Laut Malaysia (ALAM, also popular as the Malaysian Maritime Academy) in 2006 when the institution had started accepting female cadets.
Female seafarers are now being supported by the world’s fastest-growing ship registry to achieve their CoC, CoP, and CoE as part of the IMO’s continuing drive to empower women working in the maritime sector.
The theme provided an opportunity to raise awareness of the importance of gender equality, in line with the SDGs, and to highlight the important contribution of women all over the world to the maritime sector.
