Engineering and design services provider LMG Marin has confirmed that HYDRA, the world’s first liquefied hydrogen-powered ship, has been delivered to Norway’s ferry operator Norled.
The ferry designed by LMG Marin and built by Westcon Group will join her “near sister” Nesvik on the triangular route between Hjelmeland-Skipavik-Nesvik.
LMG Martin confirmed the news via a post on LinkedIn. He stated that HYDRA is “all equipped and ready to sail on liquid hydrogen capacity”. However, “It will only be feasible once the supply for the same is available, which is hopefully in coming few months”.
The company further stated that “HYDRA does not have a unique design. It is a unique ship with a high level of technological applications that paves the way for more innovation on maritime ships”.
Norled reported last month that HYDRA would operate with a battery until the hydrogen supply becomes available. It is worth mentioning that the liquid hydrogen will be supplied from Linde, a leading global industrial gases and engineering company, from its electrolyser at the Leuna Chemical Complex in Germany.
