World’s Biggest Car Carrier ‘BYD Shenzhen’ Undocked In China

BYD has launched the world’s largest vehicle carrier that can accommodate up to 9200 cars. The BYD Shenzhen, named after the company’s hometown, recently undocked from Yangzhou Port.
The 219 m long and 37.7 m wide ship has a maximum speed of 18.5 knots and a 9 m draft.
This addition to BYD’s fleet aligns with the company’s expansion strategy as it plans to increase its car carrier fleet to 8 ships by 2026.
BYD Shenzhen is environmentally sustainable and boasts LNG dual-fuel technology, enabling it to operate on LNG and also marine fuel.
It also has energy-saving features and BYD box stationary batteries for storage to power the ship while it is docking or to be used in low-emission zones, further decreasing fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
Yangzhou Maritime Administration carried out the launch efficiently, with the help of their smart maritime supervision system. They sent patrol boats to monitor the region and also implemented traffic management in key zones near the launch site. The information was broadcast to guide and alert nearby ships, ensuring smooth waters for the operation.
They also integrated video surveillance and undertook drone patrols to maintain multi-dimensional and comprehensive safety measures.
