Wagenborg Awarded For Innovative And Sustainable Vessel Design
Wagenborg Shipping won the 2017 Maritime KVNR Shipping Award with the innovative and sustainable vessel ‘Egbert Wagenborg’ of the new ‘EasyMax’ type. The prize was awarded by the Royal Association of Netherlands Shipowners during the Maritime Award Gala, where the Dutch innovative maritime industry will be highlighted.
The Maritime KVNR Shipping Award is for distinctive business management in the area of ship innovation and for social organizational and environmental innovation in maritime shipping. The price needs to promote even more awareness among shipping companies for further greening, more safety, higher efficiency and highly skilled crews.
Sustainable shipping with Easymax
Wagenborg Shipping is extremely proud of winning this award. Theo Klimp, Fleet Director at Wagenborg: “This award is really a confirmation that we have made great steps in terms of sustainability and efficiency as a shipping company with this new generation of vessels. A design that is easier and at the same time more intelligent and thus easier for crew and shore organization. Actually with less, doing more. That’s what sustainable shipping is about: smarter and more efficient ships, such as the Easymax. ”
Innovative vessel design
The EasyMax is an innovative own vessel design, using the ‘art of omission’. With only essential ship equipment, looking at loading possibilities and the accommodation in the foreship, a cheap and lightweight ship has been created. With an impressive cargo capacity of 14,300 tonnes and a hold capacity of 625,000 cft, the EasyMax surpasses all records of similar vessels ever built in Northern Netherlands. The very low resistance due to optimal hull shape, both above and below the water, results in a fuel consumption of only 9 tonnes a day at 11 knots.
This makes the EasyMax World Champion efficiency and sustainability in its shipping class. EasyMax has a network offering most systems to be accessible from various places on board. Also, systems can be accessed from shore for diagnostics or malfunction. This results in lower maintenance costs, minimal downtime and more reliable service. With EasyMax, Wagenborg introduces the new standard for sustainable shipping in the Dutch maritime industry.
