Bulk Carrier Crew Member Goes Missing At Sea, Rescued After Spending Night In Water

Emergency crew members will keep their search at first light to locate a missing Chinese national off Green Head, in the north of Perth.

On Sunday evening, a bulk carrier’s crew member named Ian Gray, aged 46 was reported missing.

Police said he was overdue as he usually returned by around 4 pm. His trailer and vehicle remain at the boat ramp.

The search stopped on Monday afternoon owing to poor weather and is expected to resume on Tuesday morning.

The search comes after Ian was missing off the West Australian coast. He was rescued after he had spent the night in the water.

The Waikiki man was reported missing from a vessel that was anchored approximately 11 kilometers off Geraldton.

An initial search led by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority was unsuccessful.

Later on, he was later discovered on Monday morning, nearly 10km off the coast of Oakajee and about 24km northwest of Geraldton. He was taken to the hospital for a medical assessment, police informed.
