Video: Cargo Ship Sinks Off Constanta, Two Crew Members Dead
According to reports, the Comoros-flagged freighter Volgo Balt 179 sank in the Black Sea about 75 NM off Constanta. The reason for the sinking not yet known.
Unfortunately, two seafarers have died whereas one is missing.
Rescue operations started as soon as a distress call from the ship was received.
The vessel GSP Falcon received the call and responded quickly to the scene.
Ukraine’s government has released the names of the casualties: the deceased are Captain Oleksandr Borysenko and electrician Hrohoriy Lysachenko, and chief mate Ramzan Bolatkhanov is missing.
The Soviet-era coastal vessel was built in 1973 and was underway from Rostov-on-Don on a voyage to Constanta.
It is assumed that rough weather can be the cause of the sinking.
