USCG Saves Two People After $1 Million Luxury Sports Yacht Sank Off Florida

Two individuals were rescued just before a $1 million luxury sport yacht sank off the Florida Coast on May 25, the US Coast Guard reported.
The incident was reported around 11:35 a.m., approximately three miles off St. Augustine Beach, per information received from a news release via the Coast Guard.
The operator of the 80-foot yacht Atlantis said that the vessel slammed into an object in the water and was submerging.
The Coast Guard sent out a boat crew to assist and coordinate with St. John’s County Fire and Rescue, which soon arrived and rescued the two individuals from the yacht.
The Atlantis yacht is understood to be a 1999 or early 2000s model of the Sunseeker Predator 80.
A bigger Sunseeker Predator has been featured in the famous James Bond movie “Casino Royale” in 2006.
A 2001 Predator approximately five feet shorter than the Atlantis, which sank on Saturday, is now listed for sale at $975,000.
Sunseeker Predator 80 yacht, constructed in the UK, can accommodate up to six passengers in four staterooms, with two individuals aboard.
The Atlantis boasts two Caterpillar diesel engines and can attain a top speed of 50 mph, per data from Boat International.
A data sheet on Atlantis suggests that the vessel is in the top 5% by speed worldwide.
As reported on Saturday, the vessel remained partially afloat, with its bow visible.
Following the safe rescue on the same day, a hazard to navigation was broadcast to warn mariners about the yacht, which could potentially damage other vessels.
The Coast Guard informed that the owner of the Atlantis is going to arrange for a salvage of the vessel.
