US Navy Conducts Self-Defense Strikes Against Houthi Attacks In Red Sea

The US military carried out new airstrikes to target Yemen’s Houthi rebels, per officials’ report on Friday. The US forces impaired four drone boats loaded with explosives along with seven mobile anti-ship cruise missile launchers on Thursday, which could potentially target vessels sailing in the waters of the Red Sea, the Central Command (US military) said.

They further presented a considerable threat to ships belonging to the US Navy and merchant vessels in the zone, the Central Command added. Such actions will help safeguard the freedom of navigation and make international waters more secure and safer for the US Navy and merchant vessels.

The Houthis haven’t acknowledged these losses. Since November 2023, the rebels have repeatedly been targeting vessels sailing in the Red Sea over the ongoing Israeli offensive in Gaza.

However, they have kept targeting vessels with tenuous or no evident association with Israel, imperilling shipping in a critical path for trade among Europe, Asia, and the Mideast.

Over the recent weeks, the US and the UK, aided by allies, have launched their airstrikes to target Houthi missile arsenals and also launch sites for attacks.
