UK And Norway Navies Join Forces To Strengthen Ukraine’s Maritime Security
The UK and Norway have declared plans for a strong naval coalition to boost Ukraine’s backing, per the UK government’s official website. The primary goal is to give Ukraine ongoing assistance, equipment, training, and infrastructure to strengthen Black Sea security.
The maritime coalition will focus on creating diverse capabilities in collaboration with the Ukrainian Navy and Defense Ministry. This includes a rapid increase in naval forces in the Black Sea, continual reinforcement of Ukraine’s marine infantry, and river patrol boats’ deployment to protect coastal as well as inland waterways.
Per Grant Shapps, the UK Defense Minister, the United Kingdom will provide two minehunters of the Royal Navy to Ukraine’s Navy. The minehunters will supply Ukraine with critical capabilities for saving lives at sea and opening critical export channels that have been considerably hampered since Putin’s full-scale illegal invasion began.
This development represents “new targeted efforts” by the UK, Norway, and various other allies to strengthen Ukraine’s marine capabilities in the long run. As part of a larger series of “new coalitions” forged among NATO countries, this project intends to assure long-term military support for Ukraine.
The UK government emphasizes its ongoing support for Ukraine, citing a $5.7 billion commitment for military assistance since the start of Russia’s full-fledged invasion, with almost 52,000 Ukrainian military personnel prepared since Russia’s original invasion of Crimea in 2014.
The coalition was announced on 6 December to coincide with the release of a new winter humanitarian aid program for Ukraine by the United Kingdom.
