U.S. Navy’s First-Of-Class YRBM Vessel Unveiled By Conrad Shipyard

Conrad Shipyard conducted a ceremony at its Amelia, Louisiana shipyard to commemorate the completion of the United States Navy’s first-of-its-kind Yard, Repair, Berthing, and Messing Vessel (YRBM) designated as YRBM-57.

The vessel, scheduled to be delivered to the Navy in San Deigo later this year, will serve as pier-side living accommodations for Navy personnel.

YRBM-57 can accommodate 199 mixed-gender personnel and mess for 300, including facilities such as classrooms, laundry rooms, lounge areas, medical offices, storerooms, and workspaces.

This first vessel of its kind demonstrates Conrad’s dedication to quality and attention to detail. It ensures that sailors have comfortable, functional living conditions while their ships undergo repairs.

Dan Conrad, Senior Vice President and Director of Conrad Shipyard highlighted the project’s importance, stating that when they were awarded the contract in 2022, his father and the Chairman of Conrad Shipyard, Johnny Conrad, expressed thanks to American sailors for their sacrifice and service. The sentiment resonated deeply with the shipbuilding team, the majority of whom were armed service veterans.

The ceremony featured remarks from prominent attendees, including U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, U.S. Representatives Troy Carter and Garret Graves, and Navy Program Executive Officer Captain Gregory Mitchell.

Senator Cassidy praised the team for their efforts to protect the United States. Representative Graves emphasized the town’s deep respect for the United States military and its local expertise in managing such projects.

Congressman Carter highlighted the shipyard’s importance, stating that the work at Conrad Shipyard extends beyond shipbuilding and involves quality, reliability, and safety in every project.

Captain Mitchell announced that YRBM-57 would eventually be stationed in Japan, providing necessary living accommodations for US forces stationed aboard.

Dan Conrad concluded with a Navy salute, “Bravo Zulu”, which means well done to the shipbuilding team. The expression of gratitude recognized the remarkable effort put into the YRBM-57 project.
