U.S Navy To Miss Recruiting Goals This Year By 7000 Sailors
During the confirmation hearing, Adm. Lisa Franchetti, the acting Chief of Naval Operations, informed Congress that the Navy is expected to be 7,000 sailors short of the fiscal year 2023 recruiting targets.
The number is better than expected, as Franchetti mentioned at the start of this year that the service was likely to fall short by about 13,000 recruits.
The Navy is not the only service struggling to attract more young Americans to their military service. Measures are being taken to increase recruitment.
To make the service more appealing, the Navy has increased the recruitment bonus amount to a whopping $75,000 and has also upped the maximum enlistment age to 41. The Navy permits enlistment of those who have scored lower in the Armed Forces Qualification Test, part of the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery.
Franchetti told the lawmakers that the Navy must still do more to show Americans who do not reside near naval installations what this service has in store for them.
