U.S. Navy Ship Stranded In Lake Erie At Cleveland Port Due to Strike By Employees
A U.S. Navy vessel has been stranded at Lake Erie in the Port of Cleveland owing to a recent strike conducted by the employees of St. Lawrence Seaway.
The Navy’s Littoral Combat Ship, dubbed the Marinette, is sailing to the Atlantic Ocean.
However, the strike reportedly shut down the water traffic on the St. Lawrence River toward the Atlantic Ocean.
The strike started on 22 October, and a tentative deal was reached on 29 October, but there is a bottleneck of vessels waiting to depart from different ports.
The resumption of ship traffic for vessels waiting in the queue is expected to follow an established traffic management strategy.
Patience and strong collaboration during the resumption period are highly appreciated, mentioned the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation (abbreviated the SLSMC) in a statement on 29 October.
A spokesperson associated with the Port of Cleveland informed 19 News that the vessel is scheduled to set sail at 5 p.m. on 4 November.
The Marinette had been commissioned in September 2023.
