U.S Navy Accuses Iranian Vessels Of Harassing Its Marine Attack Helicopter With Lasers
The vessels of IRGC shone a laser several times at a US attack helicopter as it was carrying out its routine operation in the international airspace yesterday over the Gulf. No injuries have been reported, and the helicopter was also not impaired.
The Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy (abbreviated the IRGCN) interacted in an unprofessional way with an attack helicopter of the US (AH-1Z Viper) assigned for the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, as it was carrying out routine operations in the international airspace of the Arabian Gulf on 27 September, a statement from the US Fifth Fleet mentioned.
The interaction happened at about 7:30 p.m. local time.
The vessels shone a laser several times at the aircraft as it was in flight, but zero injuries were observed, and the aircraft was not impaired.
Such actions should not be coming from a professional maritime force. Such unsafe and irresponsible behaviour displayed by the Navy of Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) risks the US and the lives of partner nations and needs to stop immediately, stated Cmdr. Rick Chernitzer, the US Naval Forces Central Command Spokesperson.
The US naval forces will continue to sail, fly, and operate wherever international law permits while boosting regional maritime safety and security, Chernitzer explained.
