Turkish Cemre Shipyard Launches Norway’s Largest Zero-Emission Ferry
On December 6, 2023, the Turkish Cemre shipyard based in Yalova held a launching ceremony for a double-ended zero-emission car plus passenger ferry, which will be battery-powered. Torghatten Nord AS, a Norwegian ferry business, ordered the vessel in April of last year.
The Turkish shipyard organized a keel-laying ceremony a year ago for the unit.

Hinnøy will generally operate battery-electric on the Bognes-Ldingen path in Northern Norway, with all power supplied from the grid onshore via high-capacity and automated charging connections. If shore power is unavailable, biodiesel generators will supply enough power for regular operation.
Among Norwegian electric-powered ferries, NB1091 Hinnøy will have the fastest one-hour travel time and speed.
The 117-meter-long RORO passenger and vehicle ferry will be built in accordance with DNV class requirements and will have a capacity of 399 people.
