TUI Cruises’ Newest Cruise Ship, Mein Schiff 7, Float-Out Ceremony Held In Turku
A float-out ceremony was held on December 1, 2023, at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Turku, Finland, to commemorate a significant milestone in building TUI Cruises’ newest cruise ship, Mein Schiff 7. This was the first time it had come into contact with seawater to assess the ship’s seaworthiness and structural integrity.
TUI Cruises CEO Wybcke Meier highlighted Mein Schiff 7’s compatibility with the company’s sustainable vision, which seeks to provide the first emission-free and climate-neutral cruises by 2030.
In terms of construction, Mein Schiff 7, the final sister ship in the Mein Schiff series, is a testament to Meyer Turku shipyard’s advancements in green technology.
The ship is more than 300 meters long, with 15 decks, 1,461 cabins that accommodate 2,894 passengers, and a crew of about a thousand people. The vessel is expected to be completed in 2024 and classified by DNV; construction started in June 2022.
The float-out ceremony marks an important milestone in the ship’s journey towards completion. The vessel is scheduled to move to the outfitting quay, where the assembled hull will be finalised over the following six months.
With a long history together, TUI Cruises and Meyer Turku emphasised the revolutionary feature of Mein Schiff 7’s incorporation of methanol capability while expressing their shared ambition for industry leadership in the green transition.
With new dining concepts, such as Asian and sushi, Italian, and European cafes, guests can expect a fusion of modern culinary experiences and comfort at Mein Schiff 7, which has 12 restaurants and 17 bars.
