Tanker Collides With Passenger Boat In Port Aransas, Leaving 1 Dead & 1 Missing

A tanker collided with a small passenger boat early on July 13, 2024 morning, killing one and leaving another missing, according to local authorities.
The incident occurred around 5:30 am on the Port of Aransas Pass shipping route.
A good Samaritan reported the collision to the United States Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi via Channel 16.
The accident caused the small charter boat, which was carrying four people, to sink partially.
Rescue efforts began immediately with a good Samaritan vessel and the Port Aransas pilot boat rescuing two survivors from the water and recovering the body of one victim.
Despite an extensive search operation that spanned 125 square miles on July 13 and 14 employing air and surface assets, the Coast Guard called off the search for the missing passenger on July 14th afternoon, after 44 hours.
State and local first responders, including Aransas Pass Police, Port of Corpus Christi Police Department, Texas Parks & Wildlife, and Texas Department of Public Safety, along with local boaters, conducted the search operation.
The shipping route was temporarily shut down to ensure the safety of the search operation.
The names of the vessels involved and the survivors and victims have not been revealed, while the cause of the incident is still being investigated.
The Port of Corpus Christi told the local media that the Port remains dedicated to ensuring the safety of its waterways, and they will continue to evaluate any further measures that could be taken to improve safety and security.
US Coast Guard Captain Torrey Bertheau stated that the search for the missing person was concluded on July 14th morning, but the cause of the collision is still being investigated.
