Sydney Vessel Captain Fined For Breaching Certificate Of Operation
On 20 March this year, a vessel master employed on a commercial ship was fined a whopping $5,000 by Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) for breaching a condition associated with its certificate of operation.
When an inspector associated with the Transport for NSW Maritime Marine Safety, on behalf of the AMSA, intercepted the ship close to North Bondi in 2020 (November), the ship’s captain stated that the trip was recreational, not commercial, despite towing a barge with equipment used in commercial construction at the time.
The vessel captain was fined following a prosecution on AMSA’s behalf carried out by the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions.
The violation of the Certificate of Operation, per David Marsh, AMSA’s Manager of Enforcement and Inspector Support, is a serious matter.
