A Russian missile attack on the Ukrainian port of Odesa has damaged civilian infrastructure and also an Antigua-flagged vessel, according to regional governor Oleh Kiper.

The attack, which took place on Friday, injured four people, Kiper confirmed via the Telegram messaging app.

Preliminary assessments show that the damage was caused by debris from an Iskander-M missile. This ballistic missile is known for its high speed and range of 500 kilometers (310 miles).

The missile hit not only port facilities but also a civilian ship registered under the Antiguan flag, as per Kiper.

According to an anonymous market source, the damaged vessel was carrying metal products at the time of the attack.

Marinetraffic ship tracking data identified the affected Antigua-flagged cargo ship as the Golden Lion, which was docked at the Port of Odesa at the time of the attack.

A crucial maritime hub that has been targeted multiple times since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022.

Ukraine has accused Russia of targeting a civilian grain vessel en route from Odesa to Egypt with a cruise missile near Romanian waters.
