Russian Cruise Missile Carrier Askold Beyond Repair After Ukrainian Strike On Crimea

The Askold cruise missile carrier from Russia has experienced significant damage after Ukraine’s strike on Crimea on 4 November, rendering it beyond repair, Ukraine’s military’s Office of Strategic Communications (abbreviated StratCom) said on 6 November.

StratCom reportedly accompanied the declaration with a photo that captured the impairment the vessel had suffered in the attack.

The Askold vessel can be loaded with up to eight Kalibr missiles that the Russian forces use for attacking infrastructure across Ukraine.

StratCom further noted that the vessel is a part of Russia’s Karakurt stealth tech project.

On November 4, Mykola Oleshchuk, the Ukrainian Air Force Commander, reported that Ukrainian forces had targeted a Russian aircraft carrying Kalibr missiles in a strike on Russia-occupied Crimea without mentioning the name.

One day later, Andrii Ryzhenko, Ukraine’s Navy Captain, informed Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty’s investigative mission Schemes that, per satellite imagery, Asklod was impaired in the attack.

One can see that it is afloat. However, the upper part is damaged, per Ryzhenko.

Russia’s Defense Ministry has confirmed that Ukraine’s strike impaired a vessel that was based in a shipyard in Kerch, per Russian state-controlled media on 4 November.
