Proman, Stena Bulk Partner To Introduce Methanol-Fuelled Vessels

The Green loans are meant for sustainable and environmentally friendly initiatives.

A naming ceremony was held on the 24th of Oct, 2023, for the methanol-fueled vessel in the New Orleans port, as it is a leading US cruise port.

The ship was named “Stena Pro Marine” and is a 49,990 DWT mid-range (MR) dual-fuel tanker built at China’s Guangzhou Shipyard International Co Ltd (GSI).

Since its delivery, the ship has operated full-time, consuming 12,500 tonnes of methanol annually.

In the ceremony, the sustainable solution to mitigate air pollution was given major importance.

The Proman Stena Bulk ships are determined for pollution reduction and decarbonization, which will simultaneously lead the way of living for people in New Orleans.

The Houston and Louisiana region has a significant amount of methanol production and storage facilities, which provide access to large volumes of methanol storage.

This highlights the region’s potential to become a major hub for methanol as a marine fuel.

Proman Stena Bulk accomplished the first-ever barge-to-ship methanol bunkering on the US Gulf Coast earlier this year, demonstrating the usefulness and importance of methanol as a feasible marine fuel alternative.
