No Damage or Pollution Reported
On Tuesday, the Irish coastguard had said that a large oil tanker had run aground around 9:10 BST. Hearing this the Belfast coast guard tried to establish contact with the master of the ship. The ship didn’t encounter any damage and there were no reports of any pollution, said Belfast coastguard officials.
Tanker Towed To Port
The coast guard confirmed that the ship will be towed back to Foyle Port as soon as precautionary checks are done. Foyle Port Tugs has been sent for assistance which towed the tanker back to the port.
The ship was found empty at the time. It was a newly built ship which was only built this year. It was sailing under the Netherlands flag when it ran aground.
