Oil Tanker Hits Bharat Petroleum’s Crude Import Facility En Route To US

An oil tanker dubbed the Hafnia Seine hit the Bharat Petroleum Corp’s (abbreviated as the BPCL) crude import facility in Western India while en route to the U.S.

The oil tanker Hafnia Seine, which was on its way to the United States from the Sikka port in Western India, collided with the crude import facility Bharat Petroleum Corp’s (abbreviated BPCL) late on Sunday, according to two individuals familiar with the situation.

According to sources, the tanker was loaded with gasoline-blending fuel alkylate for one of the U.S. units of Reliance Industries from a refinery in Gujarat’s Jamnagar. The sources added that the extent of impairment was not evident yet. According to one of the reports, it looks to have hit the peripheral of the structure known as the single point mooring (abbreviated as the SPM), and the zero vessel has been planned to discharge at the SPM.

BPCL is known to have a single-point mooring at Sikka for importing crude for the landlocked Bina refinery, which is based in central India. BPCL and RIL have not immediately responded to Reuters’ requests for comments. The sources also refused to be recognized because they could not speak publicly.
