The NOAA is responsible for taking care of the ocean’s resources and their habitat.

According to reports, nine killer whales were discovered dead in trawl nets, and a tenth orca was captured. Other marine species are frequently killed or injured by the trawl fisheries.

Cooper Freeman, a representative at the Center for Biological Diversity, expressed his concerns on how trawl fisheries impact the lives of marine mammals.

Additionally, he said, “The federal government is completely failing in its responsibilities in the Bering Sea to protect threatened marine life and its habitats. And authorities must act right away to stop this destruction.”

According to the legal notice sent by the Center, the agency is breaking both laws of The Marine Mammal Protection Act which safeguards all marine live,s and the Endangered Species Act which safeguards the number of populations of the species harmed.
