New Port Welcomes The Biggest Cruise Ship Of the Season MSC Meravigilia
MSC Meraviglia reached Newport in the morning following the inaugural Canada and New England itinerary, marking the first time she visited Rhode Island.
The award-winning MSC Cruises ship offers 10- and 11-night itineraries in the fall, visiting destinations in New England and Canada in time for changing leaves and Newport’s New England autumn.
The vessel, MSC Meraviglia, set sail from the homeport based in New York City and is one of the world’s greatest cruise vessels. It measures 1,036 feet in length and a whopping 171,598 gross tons. She will be the largest vessel to call in Newport this season.
Per data received from the Cruise Line International Association (popular as CLIA), her Canada and New England itineraries are likely to generate a huge economic impact for the whole region, including about $2 million in Newport spending.
Rubén A. Rodríguez, the President of MSC Cruises USA, stated that MSC Meraviglia’s visit to Newport is a significant milestone for MSC Cruises as the firm continues expanding its presence in the broader North American market.
When the company launched the year-round cruises from New York City, one of the main goals was to permit guests to visit a greater variety of exciting destinations, and Newport is an ideal example. So far, the response to the itineraries has been quite strong, which indicates that the firm can bring thousands of visitors to Newport this season. Additionally, they look forward to continuing working with the leaders to provide guests with a more distinctive and improved immersive cruising experience.
MSC Meraviglia’s Canada and New England itineraries permit the guests to visit beautiful ports, get to famous historical sites, and be in awe of the mesmerizing autumn leaves. Newport’s well-known colonial architecture and picturesque seaside views are expected to make it a highly anticipated break on the itinerary. Some highlights include touring “The Breakers” – a famous mansion constructed in 1895, wandering along the 3.5-mile, gorgeous Cliff Walk, and strolling on Thames Street to experience local shops and New England’s fresh seafood.
Evan Smith, the CEO and President of Discover Newport, said this isn’t just the greatest cruise vessel to make a port call in Newport this season but also the largest number of guests arriving on a vessel to the city.
The company is thrilled with the golden opportunity to showcase its fantastic coastal destination, Newport, Rhode Island, to the guests of MSC Meraviglia and to be a part of such a memorable Canada and New England itinerary. For its hospitality partners — the retail shops, attractions, and restaurants — the economic impact of a one-day visit will also be significant and a welcome much-awaited boost stepping into fall months.
MSC Cruises’ already popular Canada and New England itinerary is available seasonally, with cruises on sale for the coming fall, spring 2024, and fall 2024. Besides Newport, itineraries include Boston in Massachusetts, Portland in Maine, Halifax and Sydney in Nova Scotia, Charlottetown in Prince Edward Island, and Saint John in New Brunswick.
During other times of the year, MSC Meraviglia will sail from New York City to Bermuda, Florida, and The Bahamas.
MSC Meraviglia is understood to be fitted with innovative tech and unique solutions to reduce the environmental footprint.
These feature a next-gen exhaust gas cleaning mechanism for cleaner emissions, advanced wastewater treatment facilities, innovative ventilation, heating, and air conditioning to recover heat from the machinery spaces, and LED lighting coupled with other smart devices to save energy. It is part of MSC Cruises’ commitment and dedication to provide guests with the most unique holiday experience at sea and, more importantly, sustainably.
