Keel Laying Ceremony Held For US Navy’s Amphibious Assault Ship USS Fallujah
Future USS Fallujah is the fourth vessel of the America class of amphibious assault ships, built for facilitating the forward presence and power projection.
LHA 9 is the second Flight I ship of the class, with a reincorporated well deck to boost operational flexibility while improving aviation capability inherent to Flight 0 vessels.
Designed for supporting Operational Maneuver’s of Marine Corps tenets from the Sea and Ship to Objective Maneuver, America-class vessels are also capable of onshore rapid combat power buildup.
The America class can accommodate the Air Combat Element belonging to the Marine Corps, including the F-35B Joint Strike Fighter and MV-22 Osprey, the key to power projection, theatre logistics, and air superiority.
The vessel will commemorate the the first two Battles of Fallujah in the Iraq War.
The HII Pascagoula shipyard has been currently building the upcoming USS Bougainville (Landing Helicopter Assault 8) as well as amphibious transport dock vessels, the upcoming USS Richard M. McCool Jr. (Landing Platform Dock 29), followed by USS Harrisburg (Landing Platform Dock 30), and finally USS Pittsburgh (Destroyer, Guided Missile 131).
Besides, the shipyard has a contract for 14 new Burke-class Flight III Arleigh destroyers that were awarded as part of FY18 to FY27 multiyear procurement.
