Industry’s First Mariner Lounge Opened By Qatar Airways In Doha
In the pandemic situation, a lot of professions have seen changes, both good and bad. The mariners, for example, have dealt with a fair share of sufferings. From lost jobs to be lost at seas, the seafarers have had one of the harshest changes. A lot of them who were working offshores have been unable to get back home, even today there are many longing to get back to their native land.
Governments all across the globe are trying their best to get their stranded seafarers back home, through seas and air. One of the airlines that have ferried more seafarers around the world than any other during the pandemic, is Qatar Airways.
Claiming to have repatriated over 150,000 mariners during the COVID-19 outbreak, the airways have now taken an extra step and unveiled a brand new industries’ first Mariner Lounge in the Hamad International Airport.
The Lounge, recognizing the challenges faced by these workers, is exclusively for seafarers and offshore workers and features high-speed wifi, reading materials, an international selection of food and beverages, a television area, shower facilities, and a business centre.
As Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker describes this new lounge, “Qatar Airways recognizes the vital role shipping plays and how seafarers are essential to keeping the global economy open and operating.
As a gesture of our thanks and to show our support to the industry, we have established a dedicated Mariner Lounge at Hamad International Airport that is complimentary for all seafarers and offshore workers traveling with Qatar Airways. While waiting for their connecting flight they can relax in comfort and enjoy the wide variety of refreshments on offer.”
Valid documents need to be shown by seafarers and offshore workers that have traveled with Qatar Airways, to gain access to this premium quality lounge.
