India’s Paradip Port Achieves Fastest-Ever 100 MMT Cargo Throughput In A Fiscal Year
India’s Paradip Port in the eastern state of Odisha has made history by achieving the fastest-ever 100 MMT cargo throughput in a fiscal year since its inception on 27th November.
This is the 9th consecutive year that the port has crossed the 100 MMT mark and clocked 100.15 MMT, showing a growth of 4.78% on a year-on-year basis.
It has achieved the feat 12 days earlier than the last fiscal year.
In FY 2024-25, the mark of 100 MT was touched on December 9, 2024. The record was made in 241 days in the current fiscal year against 253 days in the previous financial year.
Despite difficulties and market ups and downs, the port has continued to achieve new heights.
Modern and fast operations, system improvements and constant support from stakeholders have allowed the port to maintain its position and stay ahead.
Growth in container cargo handling, coastal thermal coal, Gypsum and Flux, POL, Steel cargo, etc, has cemented the port’s position as a leading coastal shipping centre.
Coal comprises about 45% of the total cargo volume at the port and has shown 3.76% growth compared to the previous year.
The volume of Container Cargo has also increased by a whopping 32%, steel cargo by 35%, gypsum and flux by 24% and POL by 31% on a year-on-year basis in the current fiscal year.
Shri P.L. Haranadh, Chairman, PPA, while talking to the local media, has expressed his happiness and gratitude to Shri Sarbananda Sonowal Ji, Minister of Port Shipping and Waterways.
He congratulated all the officers, port employees, stevedores, agents, trade unions, PPP operators and others connected with the facility for their work and support.
He also thanked Indian Railways, Customs and other departments for their contribution.
The port aims to handle even more cargo volume in the coming years, with improved operations and systems.
