Indian President Draupadi Murmu Launched Modern Stealth Frigate INS Vindhyagiri In Kolkata
Droupadi Murmu, India’s President, introduced the modern stealth frigate dubbed INS Vindhyagiri on 17 August at the Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd (abbreviated GRSE) on Hooghly River’s banks in Kolkata.
CV Ananda Bose, West Bengal’s Governor, and Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister, were present on this occasion.
This is the sixth of the seven vessels being constructed for the Navy as part of Project 17 Alpha. The frigate is the third and last stealth frigate for the Navy, built by Kolkata-based warship major as part of the project.
The Project 17A vessels boasted in-house designs by the country’s Warship Design Bureau, the pioneering organization for designing warships.
An official mentioned that 75% of orders for the systems and equipment of the P17A vessels will come from indigenous firms, including the micro, small and medium enterprises (abbreviated MSMEs).
The next-gen vessel will feature the latest equipment and undergo heavy testing before it gets handed over to the Navy for commissioning.
The P17A vessels are approximately 149-meter-long frigates that are armed with guided missiles. They have a displacement of about 6,670 tons with a top speed of 28 knots, a GRSE official mentioned. They can neutralise threats in three dimensions — air, underwater, and surface.
