Indian Navy Decommissions Two Ships After More Than 3 Decades Of Service
The Indian Navy decommissioned two of its vessels, including INS Abhay, an anti-submarine corvette of Soviet Paul II Class type and Fast Attack Craft INFAC T-82, of the Israeli Super Dvora MK II class.
The ceremony was held at Naval Dockyard, Mumbai and the two ships were honoured for rendering over 3 decades of service in the Indian Navy.
The ships were retired on October 6, 2025, and in the combined ceremony, the national flag, naval ensign and decommissioning pennants were lowered onboard the vessels.
INS Abhay was commissioned at Poti, Georgia, in the erstwhile USSR in March 1989. It was a part of many important deployments and conducted several surveillance missions, patrols and rendered yeoman service in undertaking coastal defence operations.
INFAC T-82 was commissioned in October 2003 and conducted many search and rescue missions, submarine escort duties and many coastal interdiction missions.
INS Abhay and INFAC T-82 were paid off under the command of Cdr Abhay Kumar Singh and Lt Cdr Adishesh Mishra, respectively.
The Indian Navy has recently commissioned INS Androth, the second anti-submarine warfare shallow-water craft (ASW-SWC).
