Indian Navy Conducts Airborne Operations To Heighten Maritime Security In Arabian Sea

The Indian Navy recently conducted airborne insertion operations to combat piracy and other maritime threats in response to persistent maritime security issues in the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Aden.

The mission comprised launching inflatable crafts, Marine Commandos (MARCOS), and Special Forces into the Arabian Sea from a C-130 aircraft. This precautionary effort is meant to guarantee a swift response to any marine dangers, especially considering the recent events involving attacks on commercial vessels by pirates and rebels from the Houthi group.

Houthi rebels have been firing missiles at commercial ships since December 2023 as a response to the current Israel-Hamas conflict. This has led to a resurgence of pirate activities in the area. As a result, the Indian Navy significantly extended its presence in the Arabian Sea, including the Gulf of Aden.

The heightened presence of the Indian Navy in the area demonstrates its dedication to ensuring the safety of seafarers and commerce shipping. The operation is taking place against a backdrop of increased international activity, such as continuous airstrikes against Houthi positions in Yemen by the United States and the United Kingdom to stop attacks on commerce ships.
