Indian Coast Guard Rescue 2 Seafarers With Burn Injuries Onboard A Tanker Off Kochi
On Thursday, the ICG successfully evacuated two sailors who suffered severe burn injuries on a motor tanker vessel off Kochi.
The rescued people were identified as Pradeep Jaiswal (32) and Ambrose Antony (48). They were sailors on MT Xante.
Both the sailors are Indians. They suffered serious second-degree burns while working in the ship’s engine room.
Per ICG sources, the vessel was on the passage to Chennai from the UAE.
The Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre based in Mumbai received a distress call from the vessel MT Xante that was forwarded to ICG based in Kochi at about 7 am, following which a rescue mission was immediately launched.
Indian Coast Guard Ship dubbed C-162, based in Kochi, sailed about 30 nm to reach the vessel, and the medical team then embarked on transferring injured people from the tanker.
Sources mentioned that they suffered burns after the hot lubricant oil accidentally fell on their hands while in the vessel’s engine room.
The medical team examined the patient and assessed the feasibility of transferring the patient at sea. Later, adhering to safety precautions to prevent aggravation of injuries, patients were taken to the Coast Guard Jetty in Kochi by about 9 am and moved to a private hospital within the city, mentioned the ICG sources.
