India: New Cruise Ship Tourism To Be Developed In Lakshadweep
The tourism and shipping industry of Lakshadweep is up for a major change as the union territory has launched a cruise ship tourism venture. This will usher in a new wave of employment and tourism opportunities in the region.
Inline With Maldives/ Mauritius Cruise Plan
The new cruise tourism will be inline with those in Mauritius and Maldives, making it easier to travel to the numerous islands in the region. Lakshadweep the name itself means “a hundred thousand islands”.
The island region’s administration has already formulated a draft policy for promoting tourism in the area through this cruise tourism. This will highlight a holiday plan wholly or partly based on the cruise ship.
“The Lakshadweep administration attaches utmost importance to cruise line tourism in the islands. To develop cruise tourism in islands, the Lakshadweep administration has prepared a proposal for the fabrication of a dedicated tourist ship. Lakshadweep administration has also prepared a draft policy for promotion and tourism in the UT”, said the Home Ministry’s Action Taken report.
Key Features
- The scheme will allow for the choice of cruise ship size – from small to large yachts and the preferred locations – Minicoy to Kavaratti, Agatti to Kadmat, Kalpeni, and Bangaram.
- An all-inclusive 48 hours holiday package can be selected through this and you can customize the itinerary accordingly.
The authorities are promoting eco-friendly low-volume high-end tourism focusing on responsible tourism and environmental sustainability.
The union territory is home to a pristine group of coral islands popular for water sports like scuba diving, snorkeling, water skiing, surfing, kayaking, canoeing, etc.
