India: Government To Prioritize COVID-19 Vaccination For Seafarers

The Indian government will prioritize vaccinating seafarers against Covid-19, the Union minister of state for ports, shipping and waterways, Mansukh Mandaviya, has said.

The minister also underscored the importance of preventing the coronavirus pandemic from having a major impact on the seafaring industry. All efforts should be made to vaccinate the seafarers before they resume duty, he said.

The six major port trusts — Chennai Port Trust, Cochin Port Trust, Mumbai Port Trust, Kolkata Port Trust, Visakhapatnam Port Trust, and Tuticorin Port Trust — have begun vaccination drives from the seafarers.

Apart from this, several seafaring associations have also come forward and organized vaccination camps. A private hospital in Kerala has also been roped in to vaccinate seafarers.

The Indian government will leave no stone unturned to ensure vaccination for seafarers, the minister said.
