MSC Cruises’ most sustainable and newest flagship, the MSC Euribia, is set to celebrate the naming ceremony at Copenhagen’s Malmö Port (CMP) on 8 June this year.
The ship is the line’s second LNG-powered vessel. And LNG is, until now, the cleanest marine fuel with a track record of reducing CO emissions by 25% compared to traditional fuels.
Other sustainability approaches include a ‘Baltic Standard’ wastewater treatment system onboard, energy efficiency steps, waste management, and advanced shore power connectivity whenever available by the port of call.
The vessel’s name suggests the essence of sustainability and stewardship: Eurybia is the Greek goddess of winds, constellations, and weather and was involved in seafaring.
The ship’s naming ceremony destination was chosen based on its importance on sustainability; Copenhagen, home to a beautiful blend of hyper-modern designs and historic architecture, has been a leading city for sustainability for decades.
After the official naming ceremony, the MSC Euribia is expected to take passengers on a debut trip across on 10 June across Northern Europe.
It will offer seven-night sailings from Germany’s Kiel or Denmark’s Copenhagen to destinations, including Norwegian Fjords.
