Houthis Threaten To Attack Israel If Gaza Ceasefire Deal Breaks

Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi group has warned that it is ready to launch attacks on Israel if it resumes its military campaign in Gaza and does not adhere to the ceasefire agreement with Hamas.

In a televised speech on Tuesday, Houthi leader Abdulmalik al-Houthi stated that their forces remained on high alert and were ready to respond if Israeli attacks resumed.

“Our fingers are on the trigger, and we are ready to immediately escalate against the Israeli enemy if it returns to escalation in the Gaza Strip,” al-Houthi said.

This warning was made after Hamas accused Israel of violating the ceasefire deal and announced that it would pause hostage releases until further notice.

The group cited many violations, including attacks on Palestinian civilians, restrictions on evacuations of wounded individuals, and insufficient humanitarian aid deliveries.

Hamas said that it would resume compliance only if Israel upheld its commitments under the agreement.

The ceasefire, designed to unfold in three phases, began last month with agreements on a partial withdrawal of Israeli troops, increased aid to Gaza, and the exchange of hostages.

The second phase is yet to be negotiated and is expected to involve a complete end to hostilities, while the third phase would focus on rebuilding Gaza.

However, tensions increased when Hamas halted hostage releases, claiming that Israel had failed to uphold its side of the deal.

In response, Israel’s Defense Minister, Israel Katz, ordered the military to be on the highest level of readiness in Gaza and within Israel.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also signalled a possible return to full-scale combat, warning that the military would “resume intense fighting until Hamas is completely defeated.”

His remarks came after a statement from U.S. President Donald Trump, who threatened to call off the ceasefire entirely if Hamas did not release all remaining Israeli captives by noon Saturday.

A senior Hamas official dismissed Trump’s ultimatum, saying that threats would only complicate the situation.

The Houthis have been actively involved in the conflict since Israel’s war with Hamas began. They have carried out over 100 attacks on military and commercial vessels in the Red Sea since November 2023, claiming solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza.

They have also launched multiple missile and drone strikes towards Israel, some of which caused casualties and property damage.

During the war, the Houthis’ missile and drone attacks became an almost daily occurrence. While Israeli air defences intercepted most incoming threats, some projectiles struck their targets.

A missile attack on Tel Aviv killed a civilian, and another strike damaged a school. The southern Israeli city of Eilat also sustained damage in the attacks.

In response to Houthi aggression, Israel launched airstrikes targeting the group’s military capabilities in Yemen. The U.S. and the U.K. also conducted strikes against the Houthis due to their repeated attacks on international shipping lanes.

Despite earlier assurances that they would halt their attacks once the Gaza war ended, the Houthis have now indicated that they are willing to resume hostilities if Israel escalates its military operations.

Since the war began on October 7, 2023, the situation in Gaza has deteriorated drastically. More than 48,000 Palestinians have been killed, and the region’s infrastructure has been severely damaged.

The majority of the population has been displaced, with hundreds of thousands struggling to access basic necessities.
