Over the last few days, US Centcom forces have successfully prevented repeated attacks by Iranian-backed Houthi forces in the Red Sea, ensuring international maritime safety.

On May 28, 2024, between 12:05 a.m. and 1:40 p.m. (local time), five anti-ship ballistic missiles were launched from Houthi-controlled Yemeni territories into the Red Sea.

The M/V Laax, a Greek-owned bulk carrier flying the Marshall Islands flag, claimed to have been hit by three of these missiles.

The vessel survived the strike and completed its journey, with no injuries reported among its crew or other US, coalition, or merchant vessels in the area.

In a separate incident on the same day, between 10.04 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. US Centcom forces intercepted and destroyed five unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) over the Red Sea.

These unmanned aircraft systems, launched from the exact Houthi-controlled location, were deemed to pose an imminent threat to the vessels navigating the region.

The prompt response demonstrates the US commitment to protecting maritime routes from escalating regional tensions.

Additionally, on May 27, 2024, around 4 a.m. local time, US Centcom forces destroyed another UAS over the Red Sea.

The UAS, launched from a Houthi-controlled area in Yemen, was posing a substantial threat to the merchant vessels in the region.

The US forces’ prompt and immediate actions have been important in maintaining the safety and security of the vital maritime corridor, preventing potential disruptions to global trade, and ensuring the well-being of individuals who navigate these waters.
