HMM Achieves Ecovadis Silver Rating For Sustainability Progress
HMM announced that it was awarded a silver medal as a recognition of the EcoVadis CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) rating in April 2021.
EcoVadis:
- France-based EcoVadis, founded in 2007, is the world’s largest and most trusted provider of business sustainability ratings.
- EcoVadis rates the quality of a company’s sustainability performance through an assessment in four themes: Environment, Labor & Human Rights, Ethics, and Sustainable Procurement.
- The criteria for scorecards:
- Platinum (Top 1%) > Gold (Top 5%) > Silver (Top 25%) > Bronze (Top 50%) >
- No medal (The remainder)
HMM demonstrated its meaningful improvement in all four categories, scoring particularly high in the Environment criteria. Consequently, EcoVadis put HMM in the top 8% of companies rated in the Sea and Coastal Water Transport industry.
As an environmental initiative, in 2019, HMM unveiled its target of reducing carbon emissions by 50% by 2030 compared to 2008 levels and thereby reaching carbon neutrality by 2050 for its entire fleet. EcoVadis recognised the HMM for its long-standing commitment to reducing carbon emissions with tangible results.
An HMM official said, “HMM has cemented its relationships with every internal and external stakeholder from the perspective of ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance). Achieving sustainability will be an integral part of the corporate philosophy and at the same time a top priority on the pathway to perpetual growth. We believe our progress can make a better contribution to the industry at large.”
