HD Hyundai has completed the development of the Integrated Smart-ship Solution (ISS 2.0), its next-generation smart ship solution.

The Integrated Smart-ship Solution is an ICT-based vessel operation and equipment management system developed by HD Hyundai. It collects real-time data from key onboard devices to provide analysis services for essential equipment, including the ship and engine, as well as optimal navigation services.

The recently completed ISS 2.0 is an advanced solution that incorporates a cloud platform into ISS 1.0, originally developed by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries in 2017.

This enhancement aims to maximize customer value in terms of stability, cost-effectiveness, and efficiency. The development was a collaborative effort involving HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, and HD Hyundai Marine Solution.

ISS 2.0 introduces new features such as trim optimization, container loss prevention, and onboard report editing capabilities. Additionally, the interface for monitoring functions, including the Ship Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII Rating), has been redesigned for improved user interaction.

The performance monitoring features have also been significantly enhanced, including optimized route guidance based on weather information.

Furthermore, the system is equipped with HD Hyundai intelligent Camera based Alarm Monitoring System (HiCAMS) that utilizes AI algorithms to analyze camera footage in real time. This feature generates alerts in the event of emergencies on the vessel, such as fires or crew accidents.

ISS 2.0 has been installed on an 8,000 TEU container ship operated by Sinokor Merchant Marine, successfully completing a pilot test in September and being delivered to its customer.

HD Hyundai received Approval in Principle (AIP) for ISS 2.0 from Korean Register (KR) during this pilot test, along with the ‘Smart(INFRA) Notation’ certification, making it the first ship to receive this smart system-related certification.

“Through this project, we have established a crucial foundation for the proliferation of smart ship solutions,” said Kim Yeontae, General management of technical division at KR. “Moving forward, KR will continue to work closely with various companies within the maritime industry, providing unwavering professional support to drive the advancement of smart ship technologies.”

“The next-generation smart ship solution we have developed is significant because it will continuously provide customers with remotely updated solutions even after the vessel is delivered,” Jeon Seung-ho, CTO at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries. “In the future, we will continue to advance our AI-based operational capabilities to offer user-centered digital ship solution technologies.”
