Fire In The Engine Room Of A Passenger Vessel, 225 Evacuated

A small fire broke out on Tuesday afternoon, in the engine room of a passenger vessel in the Biesbosch. About 225 passengers were evacuated in a work port close to Drimmelen. As the ship is moored in the middle of the Biesbosch, all passengers had transported to Drimmelen, the home port, by other boats. No one suffered injuries.

The evacuation proceeded in a controlled manner and quietly, per reports from the fire brigade. The Zilvermeeuw cruise company owns the vessel. The company’s director, Adriaan Schuller, refers to it as a small fire.

The ship was also able to sail. To be sure, it was docked anyway. The director added that everything ended well and that they were lucky with the location. The staff was able to go to the work harbor. He also mentioned that the skipper was a firefighter.

Besides the fire brigade, the KNRM (Royal Dutch Rescue Company) and Rijkswaterstaat were on site.
