According to Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) Secretary Omar Faruk, the boat suddenly became detached from its davit hook and fell into the sea; 15 of them, fortunately, were rescued, but as of Wednesday evening Zhang Mingyan had yet to be located.

In response, CPA’s Deputy Conservator asked that an investigation be undertaken by the Mercantile Marine Department. The bulk carrier which was transporting stones had arrived at Chattogram Port only two days prior to the incident coming from a port in the UAE.
