DG Shipping Organises Workshop to Increase India’s Strategic Engagement With IMO
Directorate General of Shipping, which comes under the Indian Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, conducted a workshop on India’s strategic engagement with IMO on Friday.
The aim was to underline India’s commitment to building a safe and sustainable maritime environment.
Several industry experts and stakeholders attended the workshop, which was held at the Indian Register of Shipping in Mumbai.
Through discussions and interactive sessions, participants talked about strengthening India’s engagement with the International Maritime Organisation while promoting sustainable practices in the industry.
TK Ramachandran, Secretary of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, said the event is a vital step in the country’s efforts to strengthen its engagement with IMO.
Through sharing views and ideas and forging new partnerships, the government plans to lay the groundwork for a resilient maritime industry.
The workshop focused on exploring opportunities for technical cooperation and underlined the importance of capacity building and collaboration to address the emerging challenges in the maritime industry.
The event offered a platform for valuable discussions on building fruitful partnerships to advance the country’s maritime interests globally.
IMO is the U.N Agency responsible for shipping and preventing marine pollution by seagoing vessels.
India is also a member of the IMO and has the potential to scale up its shipping operations, given its over 7,500 km of coastline, 200 ports, and over 1,200 ships.
