Cochin Shipyard Wins 60 Million Euros Contract From UK Firm To Build Hybrid Service Operation Vessels
Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), India’s leading shipyard, has secured a significant international order from UK-based North Star Shipping.
The contract is for developing a new generation of hybrid Service Operation Vessels (SOVs) for deployment at the Scottish Power Renewables East Anglia THREE offshore wind farm off the Suffolk coast.
This deal includes an option for two more vessels, indicating CSL’s progress in the offshore renewable energy industry.
The 85-meter hybrid SOVs, created by VARD AS in Norway, are outfitted with cutting-edge technology to meet the offshore wind industry’s service, maintenance, and operational requirements.
It has a fully electric azimuth propulsion system, a 3D motion-adjusted gangway (walk2work), and a dynamic positioning system.
These DNV Norway-class vessels use a hybrid electric propulsion system powered by four diesel generator sets and a massive lithium battery pack, significantly decreasing pollution.
High-quality interiors will accommodate up to 80 technicians and staff, ensuring comfort and efficiency.
North Star Shipping, known for its mission-critical service in difficult marine circumstances, has reaffirmed its trust in CSL’s capabilities.
North Star’s chief technology officer, James Bradford, said they chose Cochin Shipyard for the project because of their remarkable track record of delivering high-quality vessels on time and within budget.
Their expertise is well aligned to advance sustainable maritime solutions.
Mr Madhu Nair, Chairman and Managing Director of CSL, expressed joy with the company’s decision to collaborate with North Star again.
Nair stated that the CSL is dedicated to constructing products of exceptional quality with a focus on sustainable solutions that cater to the constantly changing maritime industries.
This order strengthens CSL’s position in the global renewable energy sector.
CSL is already building two Commissioning Service Operation Vessels (CSOVs) for a European client, and it has a strong portfolio of high-end offshore support vessels delivered to countries such as the United States, Germany, and Norway.
CSL’s experience extends to defence construction; it recently delivered India’s first Indigenous aircraft carrier to the Indian Navy, and other contracts for anti-submarine warfare corvettes and new-generation missile vessels are in the pipeline.
