Cochin Shipyard To Construct Multipurpose Vessels For German Shipping Major
Cochin Shipyard Ltd (CSL) has reportedly secured the contract to construct advanced, multipurpose vessels for the German shipping major named HS Schiffahrts.
The steel-cutting event dedicated to six unique HS Eco freighter 7000 DWT multipurpose vessels was conducted on Monday at CSL, marking the commencement of the construction of six multipurpose vessels for HS Service in Germany on a set of eight vessels for Germans.
This association with the HS Schiffahrts group marked the entry of CSL into the European Shortsea shipping market, where vessels are known to form a key part of the logistics network from the ports of the North Sea to the ports of the south Mediterranean ports.
The Ice Class Vessels with a length of 110m and breadth of 16.5m are equipped for carrying steel coils, project cargo, heavy cargo, timber, containers, dry cargoes, bulk and paper cargoes, etc. on worldwide service trade, with a carrying capacity of about 7,000 tons.
These vessels are going to be built under DNV Classification and have the flag of Portugal, satisfying all the latest rule mandates.
The steel-cutting ceremony was reportedly attended by the managing directors of HS Schiffahrts Gruppe, Hans-Bernd, and Heino Schepers, along with the CSL Managing Director and Chairman, Madhu S Nair, and other relevant senior officials of the shipyard.
The firm’s experience and proven track record of building high-end offshore support ships in Western Europe, as well as successfully delivering autonomous zero-emission cargo ferries to Norway, have made it the chosen option for customers who have been on the lookout for modern solutions.
CSL is active in the commercial market and has a strong presence in defense shipbuilding. In recent times, CSL delivered India’s first-ever Indigenous Aircraft Carrier dubbed INS Vikrant, as well as eight anti-submarine corvettes for India’s Navy, which is under construction at the moment, per the statement.
