Coastal And Ocean Mapping Partners With Farsounder To Help Students Grow Better
The Coastal and Ocean Mapping (CCOM) at the Joint Hydrographic Center at the University of New Hampshire has added FarSounder as a partner in their Industrial Associates Program. As the globally recognized experts in 3D Forward-looking Sonar technology, FarSounder gives the students a new layer of information for their studies.
In addition to providing students with the benefit of identifying obstacles ahead of the ship, FarSounder’s technology has a fascinating feature called Local History Mapping™ (LHM). This application draws a virtual 3D image of the ocean floor as a ship sails over. This bathymetric image is updated with every ping and can be displayed as an overlay on top of a chart.
Students in the CCOM program are working towards becoming experts in the field of ocean mapping. With the addition of FarSounder’s technology, the students have the opportunity of hands-on experience with this unique technology and the potential to apply the data collected to their research.
