ClassNK Wins ‘Safety Initiative Award’ For Its Cybersecurity Initiatives
Leading Classification Society ClassNK won the Safety Initiative Award at the Seatrade Maritime Awards Asia 2020 held online on June 23 for its initiatives with cybersecurity.
Seatrade Maritime Awards Asia 2020 is an event to recognize companies and organizations that have demonstrated excellence in contributing to the Asian maritime industry. The Safety Initiative Award category recognizes initiatives that contribute to the safety of the maritime industry.
Until now, ClassNK has been establishing guidelines and standards that outline implementing bodies and measures related to cybersecurity based on the “ClassNK Cyber Security Approach“ announced in February 2019 as a basic approach to Maritime cybersecurity.
In December of last year, ClassNK certified the Cyber Security Management System (CSMS) of NYK Group subsidiary NYK LNG Shipmanagement Ltd. and its managed LNG carrier “PACIFIC MIMOSA”, making it the first CSMS certified by the Society. Since then, it has continued to carry out CSMS inspections in response to the applications from various companies.
At the Seatrade Maritime Awards Asia 2020, ClassNK was recognized for its practical and comprehensive initiatives such as the release of guidelines on cybersecurity, and for providing certification services which have contributed to the safety of marine shipping amid the increasing threat of cyber attacks.
