CIMAC Granted Consultative Status By IMO, Aims To Enhance Maritime Industry’s Digitalization & Innovation
CIMAC has been granted consultative status by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) following an application submitted earlier this year.
The new status enables CIMAC to contribute its invaluable expertise in large engines, power, drives, and propulsion to the IMO’s regulatory work in the maritime industry.
Rick Boom, the president of CIMAC from Woodward, expressed his enthusiasm for the successful application.
He stated that CIMAC is overjoyed that its application was accepted and looks forward to further sharing its expertise with IMO.
CIMAC is confident that its work will help the IMO achieve its goals.
Eero Lehtovaara, CIMMAC President of Digitalization at ABB Marine and Ports, emphasized the potential for increased efficiency through digitalization, stating that there are several opportunities to improve the status quo in shipping.
CIMAC wants to encourage the maritime industry to embrace and adapt to digitalization and believes that stronger cooperation would lead to faster implementation.
CIMAC Secretary General Peter Muller Baum highlighted the organization’s focus areas at the IMO, which include digitalization, non-shaft line propulsion, automation and system integration.
Baum further adds that their members are experts in this area and they look forward to new tasks and will give their best to support the IMO.
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) collaborates with NGOs, member states, and intergovernmental organizations and participates actively in regulatory discussions.
The Marine Environment Protection Committee of the International Maritime Organization recently recognized CIMAC’s consultative status at a meeting.
CIMAC, a leading global non-profit organization, promotes the advancement of ship propulsion, power generation and train drive.
It comprises national member associations and corporate members from America, Asia and Europe.
CIMAC provides a forum for technical discussion of automation and controls, digitalization solutions, gas turbine systems, non-shaftline propulsion systems, piston engines, and system integration.
With its new status, CIMAC intends to use its expertise to assist the IMO in accomplishing its objectives, particularly in advancing the maritime industry’s digitalization and innovation efforts.
