A search and rescue mission was launched after the Turkish authorities received a distress signal from the Panama-flagged vessel, Volgo Balt 214, off the Black Sea coastal province of Samsun.
The crew included 11 Ukrainians and two Azerbaijan nationals.
According to one of the survivors, the hull of the ship split into two after getting hit by a powerful wave, which eventually sank the ship.
