All Crew Members Feared Dead From Philippine Cargo Ship Missing For A Week
The Philippine Coast Guard stated that it was investigating the increasing number of reports of debris and sighting of bodies after a coastal cargo vessel went missing in the area during a recent typhoon.
Shipping Company Synergy Sea Venture informed the Coast Guard that its ship MV Sta. Monica-A1 had 10 crew members when it began its journey last week. The vessel was caught in rough weather and was trying to seek shelter.
The search for the ship began on October 27, when the shipping company said that it was unable to contact the crew members.
The Coast Guard also conducted an aerial search in the hope that the vessel might have sought shelter in a remote area while also asking ships in the area for help.
The first debris to have been found by the fishermen was 10 LPG tanks which were handed to the Coast Guard. On October 29, a resident reported to the Coast Guard that his nephew found a life jacket with marking “MV Sta Monica-A1”.
He also found two life rings 10 nm off Pulan while on a fishing trip in the northwest Philippines. Both of these things were given to CGSS Mamburao.
After this, the PCG-251 Islander of PCG conducted another aerial search over the waters off North East El Nido and Mamburao, Mindoro to find the missing ship. PCG informed that it will continue its efforts to locate the ship.
Fishermen told the Coast Guard that they saw 2 bodies in the water 14 nm off Paluan. Others also reported seeing debris and more bodies but they did not get closer to investigate.
